This online course is designed to provide the participant with an overview of the normal and abnormal wound healing process. Demonstrations of wound and vascular assessment techniques along with information related to wound debridement and dressings are presented. The most common wound types are discussed with an emphasis on prevention and treatment.

Dr. Tom Holland received his physical therapy education and his PhD degree from the Physical Therapy Program of NYU. He is an Assistant Professor at the City University of New York - Hunter College/Program in Physical Therapy. Chapters & Learning Objectives

1. Structure and Function of Normal and Abnormal Wound Healing

In this chapter, the online learner will further develop their understanding of the structure and function of healthy intact skin and the normal response of the body to the presence of a wound. In addition, the online learner will recognize the normal and abnormal presentation of wounds during the different phases of the wound healing process.

2. Wound and Patient Education

Expand your knowledge of wound assessment including the staging of pressure ulcers and categorization of other types of wounds. In addition, learn to perform and interpret the results of presented non-invasive vascular tests.

3. Wound Debridement and Wound Dressings

In this chapter, learn to identify and describe the different wound debridement techniques and dressings along with their indications and contraindications for clinical use.

4. Interventions and Prevention Strategies for the Most Common Types of Wounds

In the final chapter of this course, develop the ability to distinguish between the different types of wounds presented and explain their underlying causes and most appropriate treatment interventions.
