Beate Peter is the Assistant Professor and director of the Speech/Language Genetics Lab in the Department of Speech and Hearing Science at Arizona State University. She has been conducting research focusing on genetic causes of communication disorders since 2007. Her interdisciplinary background is unique in that it includes a master’s degree in speech-language pathology, a PhD in speech and hearing sciences, three years of postdoctoral training in medical genetics, and the Graduate Certificate in Statistical Genetics, all obtained at the University of Washington. Dr. Peter teaches extensively in the area of genetics for clinicians, including as an adjunct faculty member at Saint Louis University and at national conferences. She is a member of the Scientific and Professional Education Board at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
